Popcorn supplies (yellow) should be good until 2010 crop is available.
White popcorn supplies are very short. We do have some inventory remaining but over half of it is already on order. We still have one lot in farm storage and we are trying to get it into condition for cleaning and packaging. It is not of the quality we are accustomed to providing and we are not sure we will have a marketable product. We are keeping a close eye on it and doing frequent test evaluations to see if we can come up with a marketable product. We are hopeful but not very optimistic.
New crop popcorn is doing well in some areas and having a hard time surviving the weather in others. We have one grower that has had 15” of rain and hail 3 times in 7 weeks since planting. Not likely to have a harvestable crop.
We also have several other growers facing similar problems but without the frequent hail.
We have a lot more acres under contract this year than last and have different varieties scattered over a wider area so it looks good that we will have adequate supplies for harvest at this time.
We will have a much better idea of new crop potential in another 6 or 7 weeks.
